Virginia Legislature mandates Vaccines for COVID-19 for all school children

In the 2020 Legislative session, the Virginia Legislature passed H.B.1090, a bill that amended a law requiring children attending public and private schools in the state to receive vaccines (§ 32.1-46. Immunization of patients against certain diseases).¹ Virginia Delegate Patrick Hope (D-Arlington) was the lead sponsor of H.B. 1090 introduced on Jan. 8, 2020, which proposed to automatically mandate that children enrolled in daycare or school receive all current and future vaccines recommended by the federal Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).

The final bill, passed by the Senate in March, granted Governor-appointed members of the Virginia Board of Health the authority to add federally recommended vaccines to the schedule required for school attendance with the exception of the annual influenza vaccination. The bill included an exemption from the requirements of Article 2 of the Administrative Process Act (§ 2.2-4006 et seq. of the Code of Virginia), effectively blocking Virginia citizens and elected legislators from participating in the decision-making process that creates new vaccine mandates for children.

Esercizio di fantasia: la regina Elisabetta lascia il trono in favore del principe Carlo, ma, dopo qualche tempo, un esperto di diritto della Casa reale scopre che, sull’atto di abdicazione, pieno di strafalcioni grammaticali ed errori giuridici, c’è scritto che la Regina, in realtà, ha rinunciato a esercitare materialmente il potere, ma non ha rinunciato alla Corona. Non per nulla, Elisabetta, chiusa in un’ala di Buckingam Palace, continua a indossare il diadema, il manto regale e a comportarsi come se fosse ancora la sovrana. Subito, una parte dei sudditi accusa re Charles di aver forzosamente “licenziato” la madre che, astutamente, avrebbe scritto un’abdicazione fasulla.

Sarebbe il caso giornalistico del secolo, no? Un giallo terribilmente appassionante sul quale talk show di tutto il mondo si getterebbero avidamente.

Invece, nel nostro bel Paese, forse assopito dal solicello di un giugno clemente, un caso analogo – che configurerebbe il colpo di stato più grave degli ultimi 2000 anni, stavolta ai danni di un papa, (anzi due) – è stato accolto in modo molto diverso, sia dagli interessati, che dai media.

August 25, 1822: “I know not now how I went to Rome last night, but I found myself near the church of Santa Maria Maggiore. Around it I saw crowds of poor, pious souls, in great distress and anxiety on account of the Pope’s disappearance and the agitation and alarming reports throughout the city. Led by one common impulse, they had come to invoke the Mother of God. They did not expect to find the church open, they intended only to pray outside. But I was inside, I opened the door and they entered, astounded at the door’s opening of itself. I was standing aloof where they could not see me. There was no service, only the chancel-lamps were burning, and the people knelt in quiet prayer. Then the Mother of God appeared. She said that great tribulations were at hand; that the people must pray earnestly with extended arms, if only for the length of three Our Fathers, for it was thus that her Son had prayed for them upon the Cross; that they should rise at midnight to pray thus; that they should continue to come to Her church which they would always find open; and that they should, above all, pray for the extirpation of the Church of Darkness. … I know not whether the people saw the apparition or not, but they must have been impressed by something supernatural for, when the Blessed Virgin said they should pray to God with arms extended, all lifted up their arms … It seemed to be an association of prayer.” From this time Sister Emmerich assisted nightly at the pious exercises at Santa Maria Maggiore.
