This is great talk by Father Altman, but at about the 40 minute mark, he expresses a profound theological error, when he says, “I am not catholic because of Benedict or Bergoglio”.  This is an error, because if you are not in communion with Peter, you are not Catholic.

While it is true that we are Catholic by the grace and providence of God, nevertheless, that grace and providence only comes to those in communion with the Pope. To assert otherwise would be to accept the grave and destructive error of Protestantism which pretends to a communion with Christ apart from the Office of St. Peter, which Christ gave us. How can anyone be in communion with the Lord Jesus if he despises and rejects the gifts of Christ, and presumes to have the strength to be faithful without those gifts?
