  1. Apart from the painting, I find neither an article, nor a link to one.

I daresay St Lawrence to be the least-known of the Franciscan doctors, even, perhaps of the full complement of the three dozen. Read once that it was his Marian writings which won for him the distinction. Looking forward to Bl John Duns Scotus — the great defender of the Immaculate Conception — to be joined to their ranks.

    1. This picture is worth a thousand articles. I did not want to distract anyone with a link.

  2. He led the army armed only with the Crucifx! That’s a real man, that is REAL COURAGE! Pray for us St Lawrence especially the clergy and all men of faith to have heroic virtue and zeal for Christ and His Church.

  3. It was on the occasion of the foundation of the convent of Prague in 1601 that he was named the imperial chaplain for the army of Rudolph II, Holy Roman Emperor, and successfully recruited Philippe Emmanuel, Duke of Mercœur, to help fight against the Ottoman Turks. He then led the army during the siege of Székesfehérvár in Hungary from the Ottoman Empire, armed only with a crucifix.
