Massimo Faggioli an Italian-American journalist, apologist for Bergoglio, has expressed shock at the Archbishop’s statement, feigning a certain sort of moral offense called sadduceac (after the Sadducees who did not believe in the resurrection of anyone). And if you click on his tweet to see the replies, the laity are not having it and have unloaded against his hypocrisy:

  1. I know Archbishop Chaput. Living in Denver way back when he was Archbishop of Diocese of Denver. A good strong Bishop!

  2. When Bishops and others in Church Hierarchy are out of the Order of God in both their personal as well as VOCATIONAL given roles…It’s impossible to expect them to do anything according to what’s right for any given soul. The corrupt refusing to repent both prefer and shield other corrupt.

  3. Reminds me of Cardinal Mueller, Cardinal Cordileone., Bishop Vigan. Trads, and the British Indian Dominican’ homily…ubi Petrus ibi Ecclesiae. It seem with these examples , plus synodality it is becoming clearer how important it is to resolve the fact a.s.a.p. These examples seem ambiguous given the circumstances. Why now?
