I have never been sure that required celibacy for clergy was a good idea, but if you purport to have been called to it by God Himself, behavior like this is a slap in His face.
Clearly, Fernandez should have married as a young man, not joined the priesthood (although I certainly wouldn’t want to marry him!)
The real question is, why was he allowed to remain in the priesthood? He has made no secret of his proclivities. It’s time for some serious reform.
Clearly he was protected and probably trained by the St Gallen mafia.
