Commentary and Critique by Br. Alexis Bugnolo
Just yesterday Morning, I lamented that the Vatican Press’ standards of journalistic ethics were to be questioned, on account of their one line report, “The Pope slept well all night long”. Because such a statement implied that he was monitored all night, or was drugged so as to sleep, or both.
So today, it does not surprise me, that Vatican News changed its wording, for today, saying, “The Pope spent a tranquil night and is resting”.
Since such a phrase means nothing objectively and thus implies nothing.
But this change makes me think, that those at Vatican News are beginning to think of their own careers in journalism, after Pope Francis exits stage-left.
And if that is the case, then I think it is all the more certain that Pope Francis will die in the next few days, or at least, that the real prognosis is that he will never recover and will have to abdicate.
And that indeed is good news.
And this seems confirmed by the busy activity of Pope Francis in recent days, to approve new liberal bishops, extend the authority of the Nun he put in charge in the Vatican, increase her staff, and canonize saints. He wants to damage the Church as much as he can before he can no longer do anything. What a zeal for evil!

“O GOD of infinite justice! we have sinned; we have abused the life Thou hast given us: and when we read, in Thy Scriptures, how Thine anger chastised the sinners of former days, we are forced to acknowledge, that we deserve to be treated in like manner…
We are penetrated with fear, when we remember that Thou didst bury the world and destroy mankind by the waters of the deluge; for we learn by this, how Thy patience and long-suffering may be changed into inexorable anger…
We have defied Thy justice, we have braved Thine anger……yet we know that Thou hast created, in Thy hatred for sin, a fire, which shall eternally prey on them that depart this life without being first reconciled with Thy offended Majesty.
…He gave us understanding and free-will: we know what is good and what is evil, and we must choose the one or the other: we cannot remain neutral……He waits with patience for the sinner to return to Him, and, in countless ways, draws his heart to repentance.
But woe to him that obeys not the divine call, when that call is the last! Then, justice takes the place of mercy, and revelation tells us how fearful a thing it is to fall into the hands of the living GOD. Let us, then, flee from the wrath to come, by making our peace with the GOD we have offended…”
Sobering & wise words for all of us, including Pope Francis, on this Wednesday of Sexagesima week, from Dom Prosper Gueranger [“The Liturgical Year”; Volume 4; pages 165 & 166].
