This means that Pope Francis’ chronic bronchitis is getting worse and his doctors are no longer confident that he can make it through without this extra assistance at night, when breathing rates normally slow down in human beings. — All this argues that the days of Pope Francis’ active ministry are over. He will be confined to oxygen tanks and breathing machines for the rest of his life. — His medical team also has a difficult problem to solve: they must remove him from cortisone, so he does not die from pneumonia, but they must somehow prevent his bronchitis from suffocating him, with some other medical intervention.
