In today’s news, it was promised that the Medical Team of Pope Francis would announce his progress. The implication was also given that he had finished his antibiotic therapy and would be well enough for a prognosis finally to be published. But something else happened: in the Vatican News Press release of yesterday afternoon, the claim is made that the Pope is improving so slowly there is no need for daily updates about his health or how he slept: there may be in the future, but only when his health situation is “better consolidated”.
So what happened? Has the Pope improved or has he relapsed? Why has no prognosis been given after 29 days in hospital?
One reason for the cessation of press releases might be that Cardinal Parolin, after meeting with the Ambassadors assigned to hold relations with the Apostolic See yesterday morning, in the Capella Paolina, was informed about how ridiculous these press releases were being seen to be by the entire world. And so he ordered them stopped.
That meeting was to hold a mass for the “healing of Pope Francis”. And what better way to show progress toward that than ending press releases? (sarcasm)
And so I expect the next press release we get is, “the Pope was healthy, but died suddenly”, or “Pope Francis is now so healthy he will transfer to Santa Maria Maggiore and convene a Consistory to resign”. — Click the image above to read the original Italian, or HERE to read an English translation. — Because if the Pope will never again have the health in his lungs sufficient to be free from breathing machines and high-consecration oxygen supplementation, it’s better to admit it than keep stringing the Faithful along with false hope, no?
Without regular press releases, Cardinal Parolin is now the de facto ruler of the Vatican City State and the maker of all papal decisions. We still have no photographs proving Pope Francis was ever in hospital, nor the names of any medical doctors who actually did treat him. A thing which is totally bizarre. — I expect therefore even more wild speculation, as to what is going on, to break out, at any moment.
Indeed, if the claim that the Pope is now improving slowly and is out of danger is true, the names of his doctors and photographs of him should be immediately released. And any Cardinal who wishes to see him, should be allowed a visit, howsoever short. Failing this, shouts of “cover up” and “coup d’etat” will be the watchwords of the day.
