Fr. Gerald Murray: Cardinal Grech wants to make the Church Protestant

Editor’s Note: Cardinal Grech, formerly Bishop of Gozo, Malta, was hurled into the international spotlights last week, when he claimed to have been authorized by a disappeared Pope Francis to write all the Archbishops, Bishops and hierarchs in the Church, telling them to implement the continual Synodality reforms suggested last fall. — It was this obivous overreach which led FromRome.Info first of all to predict demands for “proof of life” of Pope Francis, which was followed the next day by the publication of the now notorious “AI Generated” image of a man in something resembling a wheel-chair, covered over with a sheet of silk, sporting a grotesque acquatic appendage of undue proportions, as a hand, though it looks more like a pig’s foot.

So as a follow up, putting distractions aside, I share with you this critique of Cardinal’s Grech’s proposal by Father Gerald Murray, JCD, who on matters theological is usually very good, even though if on matters canonical he could never figure out how the Declaration of Pope Benedict XVI, on Feb. 11, 2013, was not a renunciation of the papacy.

As a side note, The Catholic Thing, which is a news site is offering online courses: the next one on the work of Saint Bonaventure. I will only note that I am not too confident of the quality of the course being offered since it gets the name of the work of the Seraphic Doctor wrong:  it is not about the journey of the soul, rather it’s correct title is, in English: “The Journey of the Mind into God”. I say this, because I am one of the few modern translators of this work.
