Editor’s Note: The priest’s name was Pierre Panon, he was 76 years old. He was murdered on March 31, 2025, by being hit in the head with a sharp rock, in the village of Xertigny, in Upper Lorraine. A woman, aged 76, friend of the priest, was also murdered in the same way.
The police have arrested an individual who is 1.9 meters tall (6 1/4 ft), who is not a resident of the town but was previously convicted for home invasions in 2015 and 2018.
The French Media is concealing the perp’s race, name and religion.
The woman was in town to guard the home of her brother while he was on vacation. It seems that the priest was visiting or assisting her at the time the suspect conducted a home invasion. He then led them to the place where he beat them to death with rocks.

UPDATE: April 3, 2025 — The French Press is reporting that the perpetrator is from Mayotte, the French overseas department which is an archipelago off the coast of Madagascar, whose inhabitants are 98% Muslim by religion.
