Editor’s Note: A student at Rome, she made the fateful decision to date a foreigner, from the Philippines, who lives in one of the most notorious sections of the City, for crime and drug-dealing, San Lorenzo. She disappeared on the Feast of the Annunciation and was found north of the City of Rome, at Poli, in a forest, stuffed in a suitcase, dead. — While they are not revealing more about this story yet, it appears Ilaria might have been a student from Slovakia. She was studying at La Sapienza, one of the most prestigious universities of Rome. — Her boyfriend was apprehended on the basis that he had sent social media messages on her phone after her disappearance. He is believed to have stabbed her to death in his apartment, before transporting her mortal remains to an isolated suburb of the City.

UPDATE April 3, 2025:
The perpetrator has been identified and has confessed in detail to the crime. His name is Mark Samson, 23 years of age, son of two immigrants from the Philippines. He has no past criminal record. A graduate with a B. A. in Architecture last year, he was working part time at a McDonalds. He was known to everyone in his neighborhood as a peaceful, calm individual, as all knew him from the time he grew up. His parents worked in the home service sector, cleaning apartments. He is quoted to have said to the police: “I am sorry for what I have done”.
Political Consequences
It is precisely in these days that the Italian Parliament is discussing the outlines of a law against Feminicide, the killing of women. Under the law proposed on March 7, 2025, which has yet to be approved by the Parliament, a man slaying a girlfriend because she refuses him or breaks up with him would be subject to no less than 15 years in prison. The concept of the law is a good one, since women are generally more frequently victimized by men and are thus at a higher vulnerability for being targets of homicide.
