Cardinal Parolin claims John Paul II lived in “total transparency” before God

Commentary by Br. Alexis Bugnolo

There is a saying, “Thou dost protest too much!”, taken from a famous play by William Shakespeare, Macbeth. And this can be applied to the recent behavior of various Vatican officials regarding the case of the disappearance of Emanuela Orlandi, a 15 year old citizen of the Vatican City State, who disappeared on June 22, 1983 and was never heard of again.

In January of this year the Italian Senatorial Commission investigating the case named Pope John Paul II as someone who personally was involved with the disappearance. Weeks later, the Vatican issued a statement instructing the Bishops not to publish criminal records  of deceased priests, because “even the dead deserve their good names”.  Now Cardinal Parolin, who with Pope Francis, has refused to release the Vatican dossier on the Orlandi case, has the spunk — let us call it that out of politeness — to preach a eulogy of the late Polish Pope claiming he lived in “total transparency” before God.

Yet, it is known to everyone in Rome, or at least who reads Wikipedia, that John Paul II’s Secretary of State had his undersecretary, Archbishop Somalo mislead the Italian Secret Services, by naming a Bulgarian man as involved in the case — a man now known never to have existed. Archbishop Somalo did this in 1983, and in 1988 he was rewarded by Pope John Paul II with the Cardinalate, and 5 years later with the highest office in the Vatican, Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chambers, who runs the Vatican during a sede vacante, an office he kept until 2007.

John Paul II, himself, in 1983 put the fault for the disappearance of Emanuela on foreign terrorist groups, even though he knew well there was no such evidence. But there was a pedophile ring working at the Vatican, and according to testimony given to the Senatorial Commission, he also knew about that. But the Vatican refused to cooperate with Italian authorities from 1983 to the last day of his life, 20 years ago. That’s some transparency!

As Saint Francis of Assisi taught, “You are what you are in the sight of God, that you are, and nothing more”.

  1. Cardinal Parolin is, increasingly, adhering to the infamous phrase written by Lord Acton in 1887:-
“Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely!”

Yet another example of a corrupt, heretical, Cardinal appointed by Bergoglio……
