Editor’s Note: Haiti abolished the death penalty in 1987. John Paul II was a big promoter of the abolishment of such punishments. Now Haiti is reaping the evil harvest of that evil doctrine. Saint Paul the Apostle infallibly taught and revealed that God gave the state the authority to punish criminals with capital punishments. This is to protect the innocent. It is reckless disregard for innocent human life which motivates psychotic prelates who urge the abolition of capital punishment. It is also heretical, since such a doctrine makes Saint Paul, who as an Apostle revealed many divine truths, appear to be cruel and in error.

Hi Brother, where does St Paul say this?
Romans 13: LET every soul be subject to higher powers: for there is no power but from God: and those that are, are ordained of God. 2Therefore he that resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God. And they that resist, purchase to themselves damnation. 3For princes are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? Do that which is good: and thou shalt have praise from the same. 4For he is God’s minister to thee, for good. But if thou do that which is evil, fear: for he beareth not the sword in vain. For he is God’s minister: an avenger to execute wrath upon him that doth evil. 5Wherefore be subject of necessity, not only for wrath, but also for conscience’ sake. 6For therefore also you pay tribute. For they are the ministers of God, serving unto this purpose. 7Render therefore to all men their dues. Tribute, to whom tribute is due: custom, to whom custom: fear, to whom fear: honour, to whom honour.
Hello Br.Bugnolo,
What do you think of Fr.Mike Schmitz?
Because I remember distinctly while watching his catechism in a year about the current Catholic teaching of capital punishment.
It’s a while since I seen it so I’ll paraphrase;
“in the olden days whereby dangerous people were arrested for serious crimes, it was permissable to execute them on the basis because they are a dangerous to society AND because the prisons we’re not suitable for long time incarceration and could easily be breached and prisoner escape could be common thus endangering society,
Thus today with modern security systems, it is severely impossible for prisoner escape and society need not worry for dangerous escapees escaping prisons thus the need of capital punishment is now NOT needed in this day and age”
This is more or less what fr. Mike Schmitz said about the catechism paragraph and what the church teaches. Basically before there was a need and now there’s not.
Did Fr. Schmitz misinterpret it or is this a different catechism ?
I’d love to know your thoughts on this brother.

This is the argument of modernists, who do not admit that the civil society must uphold the moral law, because they refuse the notion that the State’s authority comes from God. Capital punishment was not instituted by God because there were no prisons, but to punish the wicked who were a danger to society. If they are going to claim it was, they have to prove what they claim.
I wrote about this back in 2015
