Pope Makes Surprise Visit to the Piazza di San Pietro

Editor’s Note: In this photo, the Pope looks in much better condition than when he left Gemelli Hospital. Dr. Alfieri, visiting him a few days after his release said he was making amazing improvement. Seeing that he was abusing cortisone before being admitted to the Hospital, I think it is highly likely that having returned to the Vatican, he has again begun to take cortisone, calculating that the risk outweighs his desire to be active again as Roman Pontiff. — This visit, while it will make many glad, is apt to cause a lot of consternation with the Cardinals and the heads of the Vatican departments, all of whom have been denied a visit with the Pope for 2 weeks, on the grounds that he cannot risk catching any new infections. This surprise visit has just gutted any truth to that claim. — However, the fact that he is using a nasal oxygen delivery apparatus, when he was not, on the day he was released from hospital, is only going to increase speculation about what is really going on with his health, and why is the international press continuing to say he is getting better?
