Editor’s Note: Pope Francis’ desire to always be in the spotlight has led, apparently, his totally abandoning the cautious directions of his medical team at Gemelli, which specifically ordered him not to meet large groups, in the open air. He still has an infection of his lungs, says the report above, but another claims that his Dr. Alfieri, says “he is no longer sick, but convalescing”. A contradiction in terms.
The above article which will not allow a Google translation (try on Google Chrome), seems to indicate that Pope Francis has already begun planning numerous public appearances during Holy Week, in violation of his doctors’ advice; even if, he can only show himself in a wheel chair for brief moments.
And that means he is highly likely to catch whatever is in the air at Rome, a city with poor ventilation, known for numerous and frequent colds and infections, due to the constant arrival of large numbers of persons from countries round the world.
However, it is undeniable that he is looking in much better health. What Pope Francis is now taking to control his body fluids, for example, is also not clear, because he has lost considerable body-water in the last 2 weeks, a thing he could not accomplish even in hospital.
In related news: King Charles III and Queen Camilla met with Pope Francis in private. It was not a state visit, as had been planned, however. King Charles, himself, is suffering from cancer, and this will probably be his last trip to the Vatican.
Update: 12 hours after posting this article, this news broke, on Thursday, April 10, 2025 afternoon, that Pope Francis, after meeting with the Royal Couple, made a surprise visit to the Basilica of Saint Peter’s. The photograph below seems to indicate he approached one of the altars in the Basilica. — It appears, therefore, that Pope Francis’ desire to appear in public is now totally unleashed. Whether his health can sustain it or whether it will lead to another medical crisis, remains to be seen.

He looks dazed in the photograph – “not all there”.
Catholic liturgies – the Holy Week liturgies especially – are meant to focus on and draw us to Jesus Christ. Let us hope that Pope Francis will not steal too much attention or cause too much distraction with his humblebrag bravado.
