An Analysis by Br. Alexis Bugnolo
There has been much speculation about what will happen in the next Conclave, to begin in just two days, here at Rome. But most of these articles, videos, and pod casts speak on the speculative level or promote this candidate or that.
In this article, however, I want to start counting the votes, inasmuch as there is public information that would incline one to consider this Cardinal or that Cardinal as possibly voting with the Catholic Faction. I call the “Catholic Faction” those who oppose the disastrous pontificate of Pope Francis, and who want someone like Saint Peter not Pope Francis as the next pope.
First, let’s take a look at the Cardinals appointed by Pope Benedict XVI:
Among these, only those born after April 21, 1945 are Cardinal Electors. In his first Consistory to create Cardinals, in 2006, Pope Benedict XVI only named one, who is still alive, born after that date, the Cardinal from Valencia, Spain, who has for health reasons decided not to participate.
Cardinals appointed by Pope Benedict XVI
In his second Consistory in 2007, Pope Benedict XVI named 6, who are still today Cardinal Electors: Stanisław Ryłko, currently the Archpriest of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, and known to be of the Bergoglian Faction; Francisco Robles Ortega, Archbishop of Guadalajara, Mexico, who is a Catholic; Daniel DiNardo, Archbishop Emeritus of Galveston-Houston, USA, a Catholic; Odilo Scherer, Archbishop of Sao Paolo, Brazil, who is likely to join a faction opposed to another Francis; John Njue of Nairobi, Kenya, who has declined to attend the Conclave for health reasons.
In his third Consistory, in 2010, Pope Benedict XVI named 6 Cardinals who are still Electors today: Robert Sarah, of Guinea, who is one of the leading members of the Catholic Faction along with Leo Raymond Burke, of the United States; Kurt Koch, of Switzerland, who is likely to vote with the Catholics; Kazimierz Nycz, Archbishop of Warsaw, who because of his opening to gay-civil unions is likely to vote with the Bergoglian Faction; Malcom Ranjith of Sri Lanka, who is a leading member of the Catholic Faction; Reinhard Marx, of Germany, a leading member of the Bergoglian Faction.
In his fourth Consistory, in 2012, Pope Benedict XVI named 7 Cardinals who are still electors today: Fernando Filoni, Grand Master of the Order of the Holy Sepulcher, who is likely to vote for the Bergoglian Faction, since he took a bribe from McCarrick to cover up his abuse; João Braz de Aviz, of Brazil, a likely Bergoglian; Thomas Christopher Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, Canada, a likely Bergoglian; William Jacobus Eijk, of the Netherlands, a leading member of the Catholic Faction; Giuseppe Betori, Archbishop of Florence, a leading Bergoglian; Timothy Michael Dolan, Archbishop of New York; who is likely to vote with the Catholic Faction, if only to keep the Vatican from going bankrupt; and Rainer Woelki, Archbishop of Berlin, Germany, a Bergoglian.
And in his 5th and last Consistory of 2012, Pope Benedict XVI named another 3 Cardinals who are still electors: James Michael Harvey, Prefect Emeritus of the Pontifical Household, and likely to vote with the Catholics, if only because he was sidelined by Pope Francis; Baselios Cleemis, who is likely to vote with the Catholics; and Luis Antonio Tagle, one of the leading Bergoglians.
Thus 11 Cardinal Electors who are likely to be part of the Catholic Faction or Bloc of voters.
Cardinals appointed by Pope John Paul II
There are only 5 who are currently still Cardinal electors: Peter Erdo of Hungary, a leading Catholic Bloc member; Philippe Barbarin, of France, who is opposed to Parolin and thus might vote with the Catholics; Peter Turkson of Ghana, a leading Bergoglian; Christoph Schönborn of Austria, a leading Bergoglian; and Vinko Puljic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a leading Catholic, who is making great pains in illness to participate.
Thus, 2 or 3 likely Electors to vote in or with the Catholic Bloc. For a total, with those of Pope Benedict XVI of 13 or 14 Catholic Electors.
Cardinals appointed by Pope Francis
The Cardinals he appointed during his anti-papacy, being convalidated with his election by apostolic right, there are the majority of Cardinal Electors, 108 in all. Here is the complete list:
It would be prolix to study each one individually, as I did above. But some generalizations can be made.
Africa
From Africa, all of the 18, less three would certainly vote against a Francis II, because of the opposition to ‘Fiducia supplicans’. But as I have already counted Cardinal Sarah, in the above, that makes 14 Cardinal Electors made by Pope Francis who would vote with the Catholic Faction.
South America
From South America, I can only count Cardinal Daniel Fernando Sturla as likely member of the Catholic Faction, because he spoke against ‘Fiducia supplicans’.
Appeal to My Readers …
I will continue this article in the coming days ….. and I ask the assistance of all of your, readers of FromRome.info, since you come from all the nations on Earth, to give me information on the Cardinals in your part of the world.

Bro, we as laity really need to know what our rights are as faithful Catholics in the event of a corrupt election, and what we can do to object or petition a correction. Is that something you’ve posted on or would be able to provide? Canon law or tradition. 🙏🏻
As developments become public, I will publish on this. Let’s us keep praying for a miracle or divine intervention.
Of the four Spanish Cardinals, only Carlos Cardinal Osoro Sierra could possibly vote against a Bergoglian candidate but he is not reliable since he is known to be a cameleon, and change his colours based on the circumstances.
Thus he probably would not be part of a bloc to prevent an election, but if the Catholics should garner more than 51% he might vote with them.
Reading your posts today it seems to me that Our Lord Jesus is trying to tell us something. The Catholic Church is the one true Church established by Himself to give Grace …but, The Gates of Hell are battering in a ferocious battle for every simgle soul within her to carry them off to perdition. I’m serious.
Cardinal l Lacroix in Quebec and Mgr, Lepine in Montreal are with FSSP , so hope for us,,
