Editor’s Note: As the Cardinal Dean, Giovanni Battista Re begins the introduction of the Mass, he mispronounces the Name of the Holy Spirit, in Latin, saying, “Spiritus santi”, instead of “Spiritus sancti”. — In Latin, “Spiritus santi” is meaningless, since “santi” is not a Latin word of any kind. — His homily begins at 35 minutes. There too he fails to greet the Bishops present, saying only a greeting to the Cardinals and to all the Faithful. — Amazingly, at less than 2 hours after broadcast, this video has less than 5000 views, and less than 300 likes, showing the profound damage that the last 12 years have done to the interest of Catholics in the events at the Vatican.
As for his homily, it appears that Cardinal Re is attempting to convince the Cardinal Electors to vote for himself. — Unfortunately, Vatican News did not enable closed captioning on this video: but the summary of the homily of the Cardinal Dean was, that the Cardinal electors need to recognize the tremendous responsibility they have in electing not a successor of Pope Francis, but of Saint Peter, so that the Church have as her pastor a man after the heart of God, as is needed both by the Church and all of humanity, in this difficult moment in world history.
