EX-CIA agent twists Papal Law on Conclaves

Editor’s Note: I like to call this CIA Agent, “Stevie”, because his argumentation is so petulant and juvenile that it is what you would expect from a boy not a man. And Stevie always gets it wrong, because he is after all a CIA agent, or ex CIA agent, as he claims, or in other words, a state-sponsored disinformation agent.

This time Stevie flunks out twice. First he claims that the stricture in the Papal Law about “any other” manner of election applies even outside of Conclaves. It doesn’t. That is because according to Canon Law strictures must be interpreted strictly. And thus, the two statements in the Papal Law (Stevie imagines there is only one) refer only to the manners of procedure in those chapters, not to other manners of election apart from a Conclave (nn. 76 and in the final confirmation after n. 92).

In fact, Pope John Paul II in his prefatory letter admits that a Conclave is not necessary for a “valid election” of the Roman Pontiff, paragraph 9, where he says of the institution of the Conclave:

“Precisely for this reason, while recognizing that theologians and canonists of all times agree that this institution is not of its nature necessary for the valid election of the Roman Pontiff, …”

But if you don’t believe this just read the law itself, and look for where it says that if the Cardinals elect a heretic or refuse to elect a Roman Pontiff, what that papal law says should be done. Spoiler alert! You won’t find a single word about it, neither in that Papal Law, nor in the Code of Canon Law.

Second, Stevie, who knows nearly zippo on Church History, attempts to argue that the election of Innocent II did not follow the papal law of the day, when it fact it did, because the previous pope, in the final days of his life, restricted the election to the Cardinals attending him at his death bed.

All this is found in Father Philip Hughes, 3 vol. History of the Church. Look it up.
