Editor’s Note: Here is a photograph from 2006, Buenos Aires, just one year after Bergoglio lost the election in the Conclave of 2005 to Cardinal Ratzinger, Pope Benedict XVI.
I ask my readers from Argentina to try to identify the Church and date and occasion for this concelebrated mass, so that we might get better insight to why these two men were standing together.
Update: My sources tell me that this photo was taken at the parish of San Agustín di Buenos Aires, on August 28, 2006. — This is significant, because just the summer before, Bergoglio had rejected Pope Benedict XVI’s proposal to become Secretary of State at the Vatican, and began to plot the ousting of the German Pope.
Here is news source of the photo. The occasion was a Conference on Augustinian Thought, which had been held at the Catholic University of Argentina. At the time, Riggitano-Prevost was Superior General of the Augustinian Order.

August 28 is the Feast of St. Augustine. I’m sure he would have as much to do with his namesake Order today as St Ignatius would with the Order he founded.
Nice sleuthing, Brother Alexis.
As we say in the monastery, the holier the Order, the worse the kind of crook who fakes it into a habit is.
