The details differ, of course.
In Hong Kong a diabolical, Draconian digital surveillance and control regime was imposed from mid-February 2021 to 8 January 2023, requiring use of the “LeaveHomeSafe” application on mobile phones, complete with “Covid-19” “vaccination” status.
Suitable level “vaccination” status was required to enter churches, health clinics, hospitals, government buildings, restaurants, shopping centres, supermarkets and many, many more venues.
Exemptions were possible, if the appropriate medical exemption certificate was issued by a registered medical doctor, but very few medical doctors had the courage to issue any at all for affordable consultation fees, though some charged exorbitant fees (for example, HKD8,000 / ~USD1,026) to limit demand and their own risk of being investigated.
Dr Wong Ping Leung – among others – charged a flat fee of HKD500 / ~USD64 for consultations, affordable to most Hong Kong people.
He gave genuine face-to-face consultations and, as per the process required by the Hong Kong authorities, had to upload the exemption status of each patient to a central online data collection system.
Some hours after such upload, the patient was sent a message from a central system with an electronic medical exemption certificate and a QR code that needed to be scanned using the LeaveHomeSafe app, to update the patient’s “vaccination” or exemption status in that app and enable them to live a relatively normal life again – albeit masked up and with all the other ridiculous restrictions.
At least seven Hong Kong doctors were arrested for issuing such exemptions and at least 20,000 such exemptions were unilaterally cancelled by the Hong Kong authorities, with no medical consultations with the patients concerned.
Unfortunately, given the sorry state of civic and political life in Hong Kong, post 1 July 2020, it is highly unlikely there is any public discussion in Hong Kong of this and similar cases, and even less likely that anyone will step up to publicly oppose the authorities’ narrative.
