Editor’s Note: Coming, as I do, from an Italian family which has lived in the United States since the 1870’s, I can tell you that for me this is one of the greatest cultural tragedies in U.S. history! I call on all Italian Americans to lobby the Trump Administration to exempt this world-renowned cultural and dietary monument from being denied to U.S. natives and residents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Italian made Pasta is produced under the highest standards and is made from the finest grains imported from the U.S.A. and Canada. It’s texture, consistency, digestibility and flavor are acclaimed by chefs and dieticians the world over, whereas U.S. made pasta is made from inferior grades of grain, using unclean industrial processes, which result in an excessive high glycemic rating and low flavor quality, not to mention, that they frequently fall apart or turn to mush when cooked.
Italian Brands of Pasta, which sell for 66 to 50% less in Italy, are already sold at 25-100% higher prices in the United States, before Trump’s tariff regimes, so adding an additional 107% price to them will only restrict their sale to the wealthy and elites and deprive the common man from this delicacy, which has already become super-popular with non-Italians in the United States.
Needless, perhaps, to say, but U.S. pasta brands are owned by Wall Street investment companies, whereas Italian pasta brands are often owned by Italian families with decades of experience and investment in their reputations. Thus, these tariffs do not serve the U.S. customer, but the interests of those who colonized the Trump Administration, if you know what I mean.

Indeed, the French market is still here. We do eat tons of pasta 😉
Americans can’t cook them properly, anyways.
I cannot dispute that!
