*  The doctrine which Br. Bugnolo sets forth here is the teaching of the Church, affirmed by St. Thomas Aquinas in Summa Theologica, IIa IIa, Q. 81, a. 1, where the Angelic Doctor teaches that religion regards the worship of God. And as the Son renders latria to the Father in the Holy Spirit by His obedience, even in the Incarnation unto death, and as the Father renders latria to the Son by giving Him all that He HImself has, so that He be honored just as the Father be honored, and as the Holy Spirit renders latria to the Father in the Son by glorifying the Son in the Father and the Father in the Son, it is perfectly true that even in God there is the worship of Each by Each. Indeed it would be heresy to say otherwise. For the Son is Priest and Mediator between God and man because He is first a Priest and Mediator in the Trinity. This is the teaching of all the Fathers.

  1. Br. Bugnolo,

    When you said that the Three Persons of the Holy Trinity “worship” each Other, did you mean “latria”?

    1. Yes. In English, “worship” has two senses, either latria or dulia. Originally it meant only dulia, but now it is commonly used for latria, the proper English word for which is adoration.

  2. Wow! I remember asking a priest whether the Three Persons adore each Other and he said, “No.” Adoration is restricted to a creature towards his Creator. That’s the way I understood it.

    Do you have magisterial or theological references for your proposition that you can share?

    1. That the Divine Persons of the Trinity adore one another is the common teaching of all the Doctors and Fathers. Asking me for a citation is like asking me for a citation that there is water in the ocean…. try the Summa of St. Thomas perhaps…

  3. It always has been difficult to get a handle on God the Father because his silence (just like PBXVI’s silence) is often discerned as indifference. The mystery of The Holy Trinity is hard to grasp when portrayed as all loving & merciful but also judgemental to the point when most people say they cannot meet His requirements & fall into despair. JB & his apostates ideology comes to mind & finds a home amongst Christians & others who point to His absence from our present-day end times persecution which he knew would occur before creating us. Why would He ever wish for Armageddon when Eden could have been an everlasting Paradise for His People & more in keeping with His Godly power & desire? Why send His Son to suffer an awful Passion & Death to partially rectify the situation (we still must save ourselves by staying in His OHCA Church & keeping His Commandments) when all that could have been avoided without any torturous suffering if He had made our first parents & their progeny perfect or was this perfection not transferable)? Why did He let out of Hell Satan & his demons to destroy His Church & why have a battle with Satan when he had no need to create him?

    There are so many difficult questions that are outside the scope of the human mind to grapple with, e.g. Why did He create Satan & empower him to enter His Church & devastate it to the point of taking a humongous amount of souls He loved away from Him? Why give us Free Will when He knew the outcome of such a decision? God knew what He was doing but we would dearly love to know His reason.

    Being God & perfectly happy without any need for adoration, love, servants etc. what was the true purpose of His creation? The old story that He was lonely doesn ‘t hold water (like your colander) & making our ancestors’ sins applicable to their descendants (us all) doesn’t strike us as a Godly virtue. Maybe you can widen our minds to absorb the Truth behind our earthly existence & God The Father’s self-imposed silence?
